Sick
So, this is Flu phase 2. I think I am getting better though, but the nurse says I need to just stay in bed all day. I haven't been keeping up with this blog lately, I can't think of things to put up half the time. Maybe one day I will figure it all out.
We are still waiting on a new Bishop. I think we will know soon, but that is just my presumption.
The trip to Alabama was good. Nothing big to report really.
Just waiting on Easter now. After that, only a few weeks left.
Well, that is all that my mind can handle for now. God Bless.

Retreat
This past weekend we were on yet another retreat. For some reason the past two were extremely close together. Anyway, Fr. Mitch Pacwa was here giving us our retreat and it was awesome. He highlighted what we need to be focusing on, how careful our behavior as future priests needs to be, and explained the process of why the Church is the way it is today starting from the Enlightenment up.
Something that he said had a very profound effect on me. He rightly pointed out that in the name of the Christianity (Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, etc), it is estimated by leading historians that about 5 Million people have perished in a two thousand year history (at the hands of Christians). Whereas, in the name of Atheism, in the name of Nationalism, in the name of Communism, over 200 Million people have perished (and this is just over the past 100 years). Stalin and Mao (two of the biggest promoters of Atheism in history) alone together killed 130 Million. Those 5 Million who perished at the hands of Christians is terrible, and by no means should be trivialized. The facts speak for themselves however. In 2000 years, through war, the inquisition, and anything else 5 Million were killed. In 100 to 150 years, over 200 Million were killed (from Communists, the French Revolution [which in the name of Freedom had executed 15,000 Frenchmen], Two World Wars, the Holocaust, etc etc etc). So this myth that you can't be Christian because of how terrible the religion is in bunk. If you can't be Christian for that reason, then you can't be an Atheist, you can't be a Communist, you can't be an American or a European or an Asian, you can't be anything. Well, that is my two cents on that.

22
Well, I am 22 now. I don't feel any older, but 22 seems a lot older then 21 does. Only 3 more years till Insurance rates goes down and I can Canonically be ordained to the Priesthood. 25 is the last age I get to look forward too before 60. LOL.

Not so good record
I don't have that good of a track record of posting when I am at school. Nothing has really been going on. I have already talked about the March, this past weekend was the Josephinum's Annual Basketball Tournament. This upcoming weekend my parents are coming down for a visit. The weekend after that is the Spring Weekend of Recollection, and the weekend after that is the College's Annual Chair of Saint Peter's Feast, aka the Italian Feast.
So, it is a busy time here again.I probably will not be getting much work done on the next few weekends.
In other news, the Diocese of Youngstown is still awaiting a Bishop. So, not much news on the home front.
Here is the latest Countdown:
1 year 95 (459) Days till Graduation.
95 Days till Summer Vacation.
60 Days till Easter Vacation.
30 Days till Spring Break.
I am surprised at how fast time is moving. It will all be over before I know. I am looking forward to Easter this year, and for Spring Break I will probably go down to EWTN. I am also looking forward to Summer Vacation. Of course graduation is always in the back of my head.
I have noticed that in the past week two Priests have been killed in areas hostile to the Catholic Church. New Martyrs for Christ I assume.
Well, this is my update for now...

Back
Well, I am back from DC. There were a ton of people there. I am still pretty exhuasted from the trip, but I think I will survive. I got to run into several people I knew, a few times by coincidence. It was also nice to be away from the Seminary for a while...
The Holy Father has released his first Encyclical Letter, so that is pretty exciting. I am glad he wrote about what he wrote about (Love), he is acctually just continueing a theme of John-Paul II. I have yet to read it, but I hope to do that this weekend. It is all printed out and waiting for me to start highlighting away.
Other then all that, nothing really going on. I better get back to studying...

Being a leader
It is pretty late, and I should probably not be sleeping (considering 6:00 AM comes pretty early), but you only live once. I was not sure on what to post about today, so I decided to talk generally about my day.
First, the March for Life is coming up this weekend. I will be traveling to DC to participate in my Second March and I am looking forward to it. It is a great witness to the Dignity of Human Life; this year, again, being especially important with the looming confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. He will bring the number of Catholics on the court to 5.
My classes should all be interesting again, as I said. Now that I have a little more freedom in choosing courses and stuff, I enjoy my classes much more. I enjoy the studies. I wish I would have discovered this two years ago.
We are only 17 Days into my Presidency, and already big moves have been made. Trying to keep morale up and getting guys to do what they need to do is a constant battle. If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to them. I assisted the Dean of Men in moving people around in House Jobs so that maybe they will be able to excel in other areas. I am also seeking to revise the way that the Student Council deals with Finances, which I am sure will be the most enjoyable project of my life. I will luckily have assistance in doing that. Being a leader is not always easy, or the best position to be in, but I think that maybe realizing that is a step to becoming a good leader. I guess only time will tell.
It has been reported that the Holy Father's Encyclical will be released on Friday, so I will keep my eyes posted on that. I also still patiently await the appointment of a new Bishop for the Diocese of Youngstown. Hopefully Pope Benedict will not keep us waiting much longer, in regards to either area.
Well, it is time for me to get to bed. I already feel like taking a nap tomorrow...

Retreat Over
Well, the Retreat is over. It was over on Saturday afternoon (Monday through Saturday) and it went very well. I like the Retreat Director, and I took a lot away from the retreat. A ton of things became clear to me, so that is always a good thing.
Today is the first day of classes, and I have already had Philosophy of God. Later in the afternoon I will have Spanish III, Philosophy of Virtue, and the Classical Tradition. That is my classes for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday's and Thursday's I will have Europe in the Post World War Period, which will probably shed a lot of light on why Europe has the problems it has today. This has been a year when I have actually enjoyed my classes. I will also be taking voice lessons on the side and studying some additional philosophy on the side.
Well, it is almost time for Holy Mass and I have a meeting with the Dean of Men. This meeting will be my first official act as Student Council President, isn't that exciting? Ok, maybe not.
480 Days until Graduation...

What kind of a Catholic are you?
| You scored as Traditional Catholic. You look at the great piety and holiness of the Church before the Second Vatican Council and the decay of belief and practice since then, and see that much of the decline is due to failed reforms based on the "Spirit of the Council". You regret the loss of vast numbers of Religious and Ordained clergy and the widely diverging celebrations of the Mass of Pope Paul VI, which often don't even seem to be Catholic anymore. You are helping to rebuild this past culture in one of the many new Traditional Latin Mass communities or attend Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy. You seek refuge from the world of pornography, recreational drugs, violence, and materialism. You are an articulate, confident, committed, and intelligent Catholic.
But do you support legitimate reform of the Church, and are you willing to submit to the directives of the Second Vatican Council? Will you cooperate responsibly with others who are not part of the Traditional community?

5th Semester down, 11 more to go...
Well, I have completed yet another semester in my journey to the Holy Priesthood. This was probably my best Semester yet, as I know understand just how important philosophy is in the life of the Church. After taking Faith and Reason with the Rev. J. Michael McDermott, SJ (member of the International Theological Commission), I see that in the end, all theological problems are philosophical problems. How one answers the basic problems of life sets up how one will answer the deep problems of theology.
I also have gone to see the Chronicles of Narnia Movie. It was pretty good, and I was able to pick up on a number of theological ideas in the movie. If one was not Catholic, or at least some traditionalist Christian, it would be difficult to see the symbolism. For a Catholic, it should be deeper then just some movie about a lion but if one is not, I could see how this would be just another Harry Potter type movie. I recommend the movie highly.
Our Most Supreme Lord Pontiff, Benedict XVI, has also been doing some interesting things lately. I notice he has appointed a friend of Traditionalism to the Secretary ship for the Congregation of Divine Worship. A new Papal Nuncio should be announced for the United States within two months, and it appears that a shift in Curial Positions is soon coming. His long awaited Encyclical can also be released any day, as it was officially promulgated on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The Holy Father has been very busy.
I have to admit, though, I am a bit disappointed. A new Archbishop was announced today for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and yesterday the Diocese of Marquette had their Bishop's retirement accepted and a new Bishop appointed immediately. Youngstown has been vacant longer, so I am disappointed that the See of Youngstown has not been filled yet. I am sure that God has a plan though, but I hope it isn't too far off in the future.
If you haven't figured out yet, I am home in Youngstown again. I am glad to be home and free of academic requirements for a few weeks. I am hoping to get a few things read and study up on things a little. I am looking forward to Christmas; it is my favorite holiday next to Easter. I am hoping it snows.
Well, I have bored you enough. Maybe I will post my paper I wrote for Faith and Reason on the Encyclical Letter Fides et Ratio by our Late Holy Father, John-Paul II. I will have to look it over first. I got an A on it, so it must not have THAT many heresies in it.
To my friends around the world, from Rome to Omaha, from Charlotte to Toledo, from Phoenix to Columbus, and from Fort Worth to Charleston have a blessed Christmas, and I hope you all got there safe. To those in Youngstown, I will probably be seeing you soon...

Life
A lot has changed in this country since my last update. The city of New Orleans has been devastated, we inch ever closer to economic destruction because of gas prices, and John Roberts has now been nominated as Chief Justice.
As a result of the destruction in New Orleans, many of the Seminarians from Notre Dame with be coming here for an undetermined amount of time. A lot of them should arrive tomorrow. I imagine it must be tough for them, and I hope they find this place to be a welcoming place. I hope they can find some comfort here. Also, pray for all the people of New Orleans, but also the Priests. Half of the Priests of the Archdiocese of New Orleans are unaccounted for according to the Archbishop. Pray for the City of New Orleans...
I was in Washington DC yesterday and I was surprised to see how much like Rome the city actually was. I have been to DC before, but seeing it after seeing Rome it was amazing. The architecture, the monuments, the fountains all very Roman. It was also weird to know you are in the most powerful city in the world, Rome too was once the most powerful city in the world. There are very striking similarities between Rome and Washington DC.
While we were there, we also thought about the Authority of the Priest. In all reality, the Priest has more authority and power then even the President of the United States. The president can only wield temporal power, while the priest wields authority which deals with spirituality which lasts an eternity. In the end, it is the priest who can help people far more and greater then the president (or any other temporal ruler).
While, those are my thoughts for now.

Back to school
So, I am not back to school and all settled in. The New Guys are slowly going through their orientation week, and I think they are all settling in pretty well. We have all new good and holy Priests here to help form us into the men Christ and Church wants us to be, so it should be an exciting year.
I should have some pretty good classes too. I start off Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's with Metaphysics, and then after Lunch and Mass I have Spanish followed by Faith and Reason and concluding with Biology. On Tuesday's and Thursday's I only have Dictatorships in the Twentieth Century. All should be good classes, and a considerably lighter load from last semesters 21 (I only have 16 now). Should be interesting.
We also have a new horarium, we now start the day at 6:45 AM with the Angelus followed by Meditation and then Lauds at 7:30. On Fridays, we start with a Holy Hour at 6:30 AM. In the evening we have a Study Time from 7:00-9:00. This should help us whip back into shape. Our Chapel is also finally done, we had a hard wood floor installed, and we refinished pews for it. It looks really nice, I will post a picture sometime.
My loft has also been assembled and it looks good too. It makes my room better. I will post a picture of that too.
I wish I would have been able to go to World Youth Day, it looked like a blast, but it was not meant to be. I hope to be able to go to Sydney in 2008.
Well, this is shaping up to be a good school year. Pray for us, and we shall pray for you.

I am also preparing to return to the Seminary on Friday, so once again posting may be lite as the week progresses...

Eventful Week
Well, know life is back to somewhat normalcy, but not for long.
I was camping for a few days with my family, but now I am home to keep everything under control until the rest of my family gets back home. Everything is going pretty good so far.
Last night I was at a meeting on the Diocesan Vocations Website. It should be really nice when it is done. Our target date is Vocations Awareness Week in January. The domain name should be http://www.youngstownvocations.org/.
I hope I was allowed to say that. LOL!
I cooked Spaghetti Sauce today for a party which I am having on Sunday. So, today for dinner, we had Spaghetti. My Grandma came up, and my brother was here, and we tested my sauce. It was good. I am also on this salad kick in which I use red leaf lettuce, cherry tomatoes, with balsamic vinegar and oil. I know I am not the first to think of it, but I can't stop making it. So, there is a nice big pot of sauce in my fridge now for Sunday.
I also cut the grass, and did some lawn work today. So, basically I cut the weeds, since that is all that is growing. Can't the damn things just die. Do they ever just die? I think they are immortal.
I also went up to my Parish to get my instruction for tomorrow. Tomorrow I start taking Holy Communion to those parishioners in Nursing Homes and who are Home Bound. I am not sure what to expect, but I will shortly find out.
I also return back to the school on Friday the 19th to help with Orientation. It should be an interesting week. It is probably the easiest week in school, since we really don't do anything. I sort of wish I was still going to be home for that week, but I guess I have to go back sooner or later.
I have also been thinking, which is a dangerous thing for me to do, about the importance of the Priest giving Holy Communion to the faithful at Mass. I think there may be some deeper Theological meaning behind the Priest as Alter Christus giving Holy Communion over a lay person like myself. I will have to think about that a bit more and see if there is anything really theological behind it.
Finally, I wish I had something in which I could put the face of Jesus, oh I mean have the face of Jesus just randomly appear in which I then get some money for it...
http://cgi.ebay.com/face-of-Jesus-on-perogi_W0QQitemZ6199742902QQcategoryZ1447QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
There is also a Real Picture of Jesus being sold on Ebay for $1,500,000. Anyone interested?
Pax et Bonum.

Life
Well, the Diocese had its annual Summer Retreat. It was a nice time, though over shadowed by some personal family problems going on at the time. Me being me, I sat there and thought of ways to save the world from this crisis, couldn't sleep, and allowed it to dominate my mind. Oh well, it still ended up being a good retreat. The food was especially good this year. Now I am back home working on the Parish Website, working on the list of those I have to go and visit and take Holy Communion too, and working to save the world from our latest family crisis. And all this must be done in the two weeks I have left here before I go back to the Seminary.
Today I spent the day going to all the Roman Catholic Churches in my city, and taking pictures of them. I also gathered a little more information from the Parishes. Tomorrow, I will pay a visit to the Cemetery and take pictures there for the webpage. I also took pictures of our Parish School too.
Then I came home and wasted my day. I also read a little in the Ohio Revised Code to see what the law said about some issues.
All that I will say on my family crisis is this. Trust is a very important thing, and sometimes you need to be careful who you place your trust in. There is a terrible minority of people out there who will use you and take advantage of the trust you have in them. Additionally, Family always needs to come first. Far to often families are ripped apart because of a cancer growing in it which should not be there in the first place. There is the phrase, blood is thicker then water, and now some in my family are forgetting that. The immediate family is in agreement, it is the distant family which is causing all sorts of trouble now. As if things couldn't get any worse. Ah, thus is life. Finally, always try to remember Charity above all things. Extremely difficult, I know, but it is important to remember.
Well, that is all I have to say for now. When I am gone for a few days it always takes me a day or two to get updated on the happenings in the world. I feel like I have been gone a lifetime!
Pray for those Marines and other Service Men and Women who have died in Iraq. And keep all our Military in prayer as they defend freedom and our way of life.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night...

Loft...
I am currently in the process of building a loft for school. I commented to a friend tonight that it makes me feel like Jesus, I am a carpenter now, well not really. Anyway, when I am all done, I hope it looks like this:
At least something close to that. Should be cool.
I didn't read much news today, because I wasn't really in the mood to get ticked about something somebody said. So if you want that, just re-read the Francis Kissling post.
News of interest tonight:
Bombings in Egypt
Aruba gives documents to FBI
Howard Dean: We can do more to be nicer to Pro-Life people
Lets infringe of people's peronsal liberties forever: Make the Patriot Act Permanent, one step at a time
Mel Gibson to make a movie on Jesus, or wait he already did that. Mel Gibson to make a new movie based on something in Antiquity (it isn't religous, thats all I know)
I would like to thank my sponsers tonight, the Drudge Report, FoxNews, and SBC/Yahoo News for bringing us tonight's show. For all of us here are cr3do1, have a good night and God Bless.

News...
Today, I went to Lowes to buy the wood I will need to build my loft for my room at school. This will give me more room so that I can have a couch in my room. Should be an interesting project for me to start.
I also wanted to say that this Wednesday I will be interviewed on the Youngstown Catholic Radio Program Wineskins on Vocations. I should get my interview down pat, but I wanted to let all my faithful readers know this. So pray for me around 1 PM on Wednesday afternoon. I have no idea when it will air.
I am currently trying to force myself to have a love for reading. I am reading the encyclical letter Fides et Ratio by John-Paul II and the Spiritual Exercises by Saint Ignatius of Loyola. So far so good. I do not believe, however, that I will meet the goal I set for myself at the begining of summer for the number of books I was supposed to read. Oh well...
I will be finishing The Spirit of the Liturgy, by Pope Benedict XVI, next. I want to see what Benedict has in store for us. I have only read about half of the book.
Finally, Pope Benedict speaks of the value of Vacations while on Vacation...
