The United Nations

15. The first to benefit from a decisive choice for disarmament will be the poor countries, which rightly demand, after having heard so many promises, the concrete implementation of their right to development. That right was solemnly reaffirmed in the recent General Assembly of the United Nations Organization, which this year celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of its foundation. The Catholic Church, while confirming her confidence in this international body, calls for the institutional and operative renewal which would enable it to respond to the changed needs of the present time, characterized by the vast phenomenon of globalization. The United Nations Organization must become a more efficient instrument for promoting the values of justice, solidarity and peace in the world. For her part, the Church, in fidelity to the mission she has received from her Founder, is committed to proclaiming everywhere ''the Gospel of peace''. In the firm conviction that she offers an indispensable service to all those who strive to promote peace, she reminds everyone that, if peace is to be authentic and lasting, it must be built on the bedrock of the truth about God and the truth about man. This truth alone can create a sensitivity to justice and openness to love and solidarity, while encouraging everyone to work for a truly free and harmonious human family. The foundations of authentic peace rest on the truth about God and man. - Pope Benedict's Message for the World Day of Peace 2006

Finally, someone is calling for the reform of the United Nations. I have never been, nor am I now, opposed to the concept of the United Nations. I believe it has a lot of potential to promoting peace and justice in the world and it gives bigger nations an opportunity to help other nations and cooperate amongst each other. The United Nations has failed at this mission however, and has become a corrupt international body promoting not peace and justice, but condoms and abortion. It has been at the center of a number of scandals, none of which receives much press. In order for it to be effective, it needs to reform otherwise it will be nothing more then a big bureaucracy with corrupt politicians. In other words, it will stay status quo, and while women may not be having babies, people will still be starving and dieing, feudal type warlords will continue to kill people in Africa, and North Korea and Iran will continue to be a major threat to the stability of the world.

The UN does need to realize, however, that it is not and should not be a legislating body. It should not have sovereign power over any nation. This would be an attempt at one world government, which is a bad idea. It should be, however, a highway for communication, and a place where nations can deal with problems with other nations. None of this will happen under the current leadership. However, I am glad that Pope Benedict did call for its reform, and maybe someday someone will listen.

"Of course he's against abortion"

Thus are the words of Sam Alito's mother. If he is confirmed, he will be the 5th Catholic on the Supreme Court, which would be the largest group, obviously. Of course, Kennedy is somewhere out in left field somewhere, but it would still none the less be 5. It is sort of exciting for the Church because of this, 4 was the highest at one time, but 5 would just do it. If any of this makes sense LOL.

Anyway, Alito would also provide the privotal 5th vote to overturn the legal right to Partial Birth Abortion. He would only be a 4th vote to over turn Roe v Wade, but would provide an important vote to overturn at least some abortions in this country.

Let us all pray.

Pray for Youngstown as we away a Bishop too...

Iraq

I have been doing some thinking on the War in Iraq. Regardless if you were for the war or against the war back in March 2003, I think we now have the moral obligation to remain in Iraq and complete the task that was started. The war may or may not have been justified, John-Paul II condemned it, and I don't know what I personally think about it, however, it would be a terrible moral mistake to simply abandon the Iraqi people after we completely dismantled their government and way of life. These calls to abandon Iraq and bring the military home are terrible calls to be making, as this will only cause more strife to the Iraqi people and in the long run hurt America after the terrorists announce that they were right all a long and the rest of the Muslim world agrees with them.

I do believe, however, that America is making a mistake by not appealing for World Assistance at this point. It is in not only America's best interest that Iraq succeeds, but in the world's best interest. At this point, what your stance on the war was is irrelevant. It was for purposes like this that the UN was formed, I say make them do what they should actually be doing, instead of having them force abortions in other parts of the world.

Basically, I have been thinking about this because of the protests of Cindy Sheehan. I see many signs and more talk of just pulling our troops out, which would be a disastrous mistake. Every time America starts something and doesn't finish it, it always turns out for the worst.

I also think this rhetoric of attacking other people, Iran and North Korea, needs to stop. We don't have the resources to even contemplate that. If we want to attack Iran to protect Israel and Europe, let Israel and Europe handle the problem. If we want to protect Japan from North Korea, then let Japan handle it. If America wasn't so nuclear hungry, seeking a Star Wars defense program, and would have listened to John XXIII in 1960 when he called for world wide nuclear disarmament, we probably wouldn't have this problem today. We America as a sovereign state has the right to Nuclear weapons, then who are to say that Iran and North Korea as a sovereign state is not entitled to them? Yes, it is a bad idea for them to have them, but we can't tell them they can't have them, when we have a huge stock pile of them sitting here at home. Until someone comes into the world who is a visionary on disarmament, more and more rogue states are going to acquire this technology. Also, why aren't we telling Pakistan and India they can't have them? That is the part of the world where Nuclear War is most likely, and has been on the brink many times over the past few years.

As for the Jews in Israel in these settlements, I hate to say it, but I guess they know how the Palestinians felt when the Jews moved in and pushed them out. If they were truly interested in peace, and not in genocide against the Palestinian people, then there would be no problem in abandoning these settlements which have been used to attack the Palestinian people. Both sides are losers in this, and neither side can claim not to have blood on their hands, but they both need to get serious about peace. They should give Gaza and the West Bank back to the Palestinians, and declare Jerusalem to be some special zone where neither side claims the land. Jerusalem has been fought over for far to long, going back to the days of the Crusades, I think the place were Jesus Christ gave salvation to the world deserves a little peace and the only way to accomplish that is to declare it some sort of International Zone.

Just my thoughts on Military Situations throughout the world today...

National Sovereignty

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4140992.stm

What is seen here is a blatant attack on a National Sovereign power. This is a threat which both the European Union and the United Nations posses to countries who are now struggling to maintain their own identity. This is an attempt at the One World Order and a One World Government, and the EU and the UN is the way in which these people are getting at that which they want.

When an international or inter-continental organization meant to either keep the peace or help counties better collaborate begins to dictate laws on a country, or even believe that they have the power to do so, is a terrible crime. I do not believe the EU or the UN has the authority to speak on Abortion either way. Neither organization was created for anything remotely close to that issue, and should not even be addressing it. Both organizations focus too much energy on promoting abortion, criticizing those who don't approve it, then on promoting justice and peace.

The people of Ireland have spoken numerous times on the issue of Abortion. The EU does not have the authority or the power to impose abortion on them. The EU is already on the verge failure, if they agree with these women and attempt to impose Abortion on the Irish People, then they will have a crisis of another kind on their hands and will most certainly lead to the dissolution of the Union. Of course, this wouldn't be such a bad thing since the EU already misrepresents the people of Europe, and fails to listen to what they say. A corrupt bureaucracy is never a good thing, especially when it believes that it has more authority than it really does.

These massive organizations must be put back in their place. They were not created to rule, they were created to serve. They were meant to help people, not over rule them. Nation's Sovereignty is under attack, and it is beyond time that these organizations are put back in their places.

More on the Supreme Court

It has been confirmed to me that Judge Roberts wife has been very active in the Right to Life Movement. This is a good thing. She is also a devout Catholic, which is a good thing. He is also Catholic, I assume devout, but no one has really gone that far yet.

Yesterday, Alberto Gonzalez said that a Supreme Court Justice is not bound by previous court rulings, like Roe v Wade. This has made me think of the possible reason why John Roberts, while up for confirmation as a lower court judge, would have said that he believes Roe v Wade is the decided law of the land. It is possible he said this, because as a lower court judge he would have been bound to the unjust ruling. As a Supreme Court Justice, however, he is free to decided as he pleases. Gonzalez may have been signaling to Pro-Life groups that this is the case. (Although it would be weird for him to be doing it, since he himself is Pro-Death).

However, this is interesting. That quote of Roberts can be explained.

The most recent news, which may not even be true, is that some are claiming that Roberts told them that he would rule without the influence of his Catholic faith.

Oh well, should be interesting to see what happens. Who knows...

Supreme Nomination

Well, John Roberts has gotten the support of nearly every conservative I can find, but I can't help but to feel uneasy about this nomination.

I found out that Roberts is a Catholic, put himself through college by working in a steel mill, is married to an alleged former Vice President of Feminists for Life, and seems to be very qualified for the position. He also seems to be the scourge of pro-death groups, from NARAL to Planned Parenthood.

However, his lacking on statements on stances he holds is frightening. Ann Coulter, a conservative columnist, is not sold on him. I am not 100% sure I am either. He has contradictory statements on Roe v. Wade, which can be explained, but... They tell us he will be good, but they said that about Souter too. When the stakes are this high, it is hard to not be worried.

I suppose we will all have to wait until the confirmation hearings to find out. I just pray he is not another Souter, who was conservative until he got on the high court.

The 3rd House of Congress

On June 23, 2005, Judicial Legislation continued. Private property is no longer protected, and can be seized when the government sees fit. In the 5 to 4 decision (liberal decision), the Justices, decided that not only can private property be seized for just public use, but that the government can now seize private property
to be sold as private property because it will be used by the public. This is a very lose misinterpretation of the Fifth Amendment. This site is seeking impeachment proceedings again Justices Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsberg, and Breyer. Sign the petition if you are fed up with the unconstitutionality of judicial legislation.
