The academic year and come to another close, and summer is upon us. I have now completed three full years in the Seminary and only have five remaining. It is amazing how the time flies.

My summer plans include working in my Parish, a trip to Fatima and Santiago, reading a lot, and whatever else might come up.

The Diocese of Youngstown is still awaiting a new Bishop. Hopefully the Congregation of Bishops in Rome and the Holy Father is using this time to choose a good, holy, orthodox Bishop to lead the Church of Youngstown. I imagine that American Appointments have to be coming up any day now, so, hopefully then.

Well, I guess it is that time of year. Half the school was sick the past two days with the flu, and for the first time in my time here, they acctually had to cancel classes because of it. I, for the most part have avoided the flu, but my neck is killing me right now for some reason. Hopefully it is just a strain.

It is also that time of year for Mid Terms. How exciting. Granted a very beyond on my reading, I hope I can pull through and do well on my exams. I am not worried about any of them except my Philosophy ones, which just so happen to be the most important ones. Grrrreat!

Nothing else is really going on. Just studying and helping others recover.

This weekend is our Mid Term Break, and this year a few of us are going to be traveling down to Alabama to EWTN and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. I have a friend who entered the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word last year, so it will be nice to visit with him. This will be my second trip to Alabama. I am also looking forward to Easter Break in just a short month, I can't wait to go home. I love Holy Week. Since Easter is a little later this month, only three weeks after Easter Summer Break begins. How time is flying, 3 years almost complete.

DOY is still waiting on a Bishop, it will be a year in just three weeks or so. I hope that Pope Benedict will appoint a Bishop soon, maybe we can have a Bishop-Elect by Easter.

Pax et Bonum.

Tomorrow begins the Spiritual Pilgrimage towards Easter Sunday within the Roman Catholic Church (The Eastern Catholic Church started Lent on Monday, with the Eastern Orthodox following suit this coming Monday). Many Catholics and other Christians will sacrifice something in order to make their lives better and more Christ centered. I have often fallen in what I have attempted, but this year I am going to try harder. I often wonder how often these sacrifices have left a permanent character mark on these faithful Christians. Lent should be a time when we examine our lives, make the appropriate sacrifices, and end Lent better than where we started. Once Easter arrives, and we commemorate once again the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead it should not be business as usual. Our God and our Faith demands that we continually rejuvenate our spiritual lives and that we continue to die to this world of sin. We must be apart of this world, but we must not conform to it. What will a life that is happy for eighty years compare to a life of eternal damnation?

Those are my two cents on Lent this year...

This past weekend we were on yet another retreat. For some reason the past two were extremely close together. Anyway, Fr. Mitch Pacwa was here giving us our retreat and it was awesome. He highlighted what we need to be focusing on, how careful our behavior as future priests needs to be, and explained the process of why the Church is the way it is today starting from the Enlightenment up.

Something that he said had a very profound effect on me. He rightly pointed out that in the name of the Christianity (Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, etc), it is estimated by leading historians that about 5 Million people have perished in a two thousand year history (at the hands of Christians). Whereas, in the name of Atheism, in the name of Nationalism, in the name of Communism, over 200 Million people have perished (and this is just over the past 100 years). Stalin and Mao (two of the biggest promoters of Atheism in history) alone together killed 130 Million. Those 5 Million who perished at the hands of Christians is terrible, and by no means should be trivialized. The facts speak for themselves however. In 2000 years, through war, the inquisition, and anything else 5 Million were killed. In 100 to 150 years, over 200 Million were killed (from Communists, the French Revolution [which in the name of Freedom had executed 15,000 Frenchmen], Two World Wars, the Holocaust, etc etc etc). So this myth that you can't be Christian because of how terrible the religion is in bunk. If you can't be Christian for that reason, then you can't be an Atheist, you can't be a Communist, you can't be an American or a European or an Asian, you can't be anything. Well, that is my two cents on that.

I don't have that good of a track record of posting when I am at school. Nothing has really been going on. I have already talked about the March, this past weekend was the Josephinum's Annual Basketball Tournament. This upcoming weekend my parents are coming down for a visit. The weekend after that is the Spring Weekend of Recollection, and the weekend after that is the College's Annual Chair of Saint Peter's Feast, aka the Italian Feast.

So, it is a busy time here again.I probably will not be getting much work done on the next few weekends.

In other news, the Diocese of Youngstown is still awaiting a Bishop. So, not much news on the home front.

Here is the latest Countdown:
1 year 95 (459) Days till Graduation.
95 Days till Summer Vacation.
60 Days till Easter Vacation.
30 Days till Spring Break.

I am surprised at how fast time is moving. It will all be over before I know. I am looking forward to Easter this year, and for Spring Break I will probably go down to EWTN. I am also looking forward to Summer Vacation. Of course graduation is always in the back of my head.

I have noticed that in the past week two Priests have been killed in areas hostile to the Catholic Church. New Martyrs for Christ I assume.

Well, this is my update for now...
